Now’s the time to give garden a rest
If plants can not grow properly in these winters then they must be protected by a survival strategy called dormancy.
It is advised strictly not to use fertilizing plants with nitrogen because plants also need a rest. Winter frost can damage the shoots, and the plant would die. Hence there is no point in providing plant with fertilizers as they can have stored carbohydrates to maintain low- level respiration during dormancy.
