The great scholar Kenneth W. Lowe envisioned HGTV in 1992 with utmost care. With a minimum financial support from the E. W. Scripps board, he purchased Cinetel, a small scale video production company in Knoxville, Tennessee as the base and production hub of the new networking company.Cinetel became Scripps Productions, but producing more than 30 programs simultaneously proved a real difficult job.The organization brought in former CBS television executive Ed Spray who started a new system of producing nearly all programming through independent production houses around the United States. Burton Jablin, as Vice President of Programming, set the tone and overlooked the production of the early series. About 90% of the network was original at the beginning of the launch, with 10% licensed and rerun from Canadian,PBS and other sources.ContentsHistoryProgramming HGTV HDDispute with cable visionAT and T u-verse carriage disputeCanadaReferencesExternal links
